As it comes to blood pressure, people often consider high blood pressure to be more dangerous for our health. However, low blood pressure is also very harmful and has numerous side effects. Low blood pressure is known as hypotension. We talk about hypotension if the blood pressure goes below 90/60 mmHg. In case this medical condition is not properly treated, it may have serious and dangerous health consequences.

The side effects of low blood pressure are mainly caused by the insufficient quantities of oxygen that go to the different body organs. Some of the health consequences related to hypotension include nausea, dizziness, fainting spells, heart and brain problems, effects on the kidneys, etc.

Nausea is one of the most common side effects of low blood pressure. Nausea occurs because the brain doesn’t receive enough blood and oxygen due to the low pressure. In some cases nausea is followed by vomiting. Dizziness is another common result of hypotension and it is often seen in elderly people.

Fainting is very often caused by low blood pressure and it is a result of insufficient blood flow and oxygen scarcity in the brain. As blood pressure drops suddenly, people risk to get seriously injured because they lose conscious unexpectedly.

Low blood pressure may cause many serious cardiovascular diseases, including a heart attack because the heart can’t pump blood to the organs of the body. This happens because the flow of blood becomes very slow in cases of hypotension.

The brain is also seriously affected by the low blood pressure. As the brain can’t receive proper quantities of blood and oxygen, the nervous system may experience some complications, such as nerve damage, confusion, mental illness, etc.

Hypotension may also have effects on the kidneys. Their main function is to eliminate the toxins but low blood pressure may worsen the way the kidneys work. So, as a result, toxins may build up in the kidneys and cause serious health problems.
